Shula’s Steak House in Allentown closed its doors Thursday night, a half-year after the high-end restaurant opened with fanfare in center city.

The closing of the restaurant at Four City Center is the first high-profile casualty in Allentown’s Neighborhood Improvement Zone, which has attracted a wide range of new businesses to the downtown.

Kostas Kalogeropoulos, operator of Shula’s, said the restaurant could not draw enough customers to keep going.

“[Last year] we relocated Shula’s out of a desire to support the revitalization of downtown Allentown,” he said. “Unfortunately, the $75 customers we need on a constant basis to support our fine dining were harder to find here than we thought…[cont.]”
