SOUTH WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP — A religious-based nonprofit dedicated to community service may soon have more space to conduct its programs.
Chabad Lubavitch of Lehigh Valley, 4457 Crackersport Road, was granted variances by the South Whitehall Township Zoning Hearing Board to more than double its space as well as relocate parking.
Rabbi Yaacov Halperin, the organization’s president, told the board Monday that the building, now at 3,400 square feet, is too cramped to adequately serve the clubs and organizations throughout the week.
Religious instruction and music classes, mentoring and educational programs for children, and weekend luncheons all require Halperin and his two staff members to constantly shuffle and reconfigure the limited available space to accommodate them.
